Justice Society of America

Justice Society of America # 6... (July 2007). The Legion of Super Heroes and the Justice League of America appear in this issue. It is a foreshadowing of the Thy Kingdom Come story and begins with Starman who has just returned from Earth-22. Liberty Belle has an interesting conversation with Wonder Woman about marriage. Diana said she never thought about it as it is a concept she never grew up with. Liberty Belle wonders about her and Superman, saying that they were made for each other. Diana simply says he's unavailable. Later Triplicate Girl meets the JSA/JLA team and she greets Wonder Woman. Triplicate Girl makes a comment that makes one wonder if it is a teaser of the future. She asks "Where is her cape?" to her other self, who in turn replies, "That's her daughter."

Justice Society of America # 11...(January 2008). The JLA are called in to meet the older Superman who says he has come from an alternative earth. Wonder Woman verifies with her lasso that he is telling the truth while Superman confirms that he is a molecular match for Superman. They want to try to find a way to send him home. This Superman reveals that his world as he knew it died just as he was transported to this Earth. The issue deals with the Kingdom Come Superman remaining in Keystone where he is in awe that this world's metahumans were actually acting like the superheroes he once knew.

Justice Society of America #17...(September 2008). Wonder Woman makes a brief appearance as part of a team that is following Gog to see whether he is as benevolent as he appears to be. Gog tells her the birds love her, that he likes her, and he will be a protector for heroes.

Justice Society of America Kingdom Come Special: The Kingdom #1...(January 2009). Gog continues his march across the continent to heal, protect, and bring peace. The Kingdom Come Superman takes time out to seek out Wonder Woman. There is a moment of awkwardness as he calls out to her. He tells her that they were colleagues and friends on his world. He talks to her about her killing of Max Lord and begs her to not take the path of violence. She says that she wished there was no use for swords or shields but unfortunately there comes a time when one has to take up the sword. She is sincere when she tells him that she hopes that he would never be put into such a position.

Justice Society of America #22...(February 2009) This is the wrap up to the Kingdom Come Superman story arc. We see the combined efforts of the JSA take down Gog, who as it turns out, was not as benevolent as he appeared to be. The JSA members lose their gifts, but Magog remains with his. Gog also makes Kal-El realize that he abandoned his earth and he asks Starman to send him back.

Superman appears back on Earth 22 at the exact moment the nuclear bomb explodes in the original Kingdom Come story and countless heroes are now dead. (The Earth-22 panels are all done in Alex Ross' painting style).

This sends Superman over the edge and he flies in a rage to the U.N. to confront the attackers. Norman Mckay appears and reminds him what made him so special and that he needed to forgive himself. Superman listens and he soon realizes that he is not alone, that everyone did not die. He sees Wonder Woman, Batman, Green Lantern and the others appear and he whispers a pray of thankfulness.

We see the same scene of Diana meeting with Superman, now in civilian clothes, erecting a memorial to the countless dead in Kansas, as in the original graphic novel, but this time Alex Ross illustrates from different angles. Diana gives him a gift: his old glasses. He puts them on and smiles and we see Clark Kent once more. They share a passionate and loving kiss.

We are then treated to future vignettes of Clark and Diana's life together. They have five children and Bruce Wayne, as promised, is involved in their upbringing. The Kent family, with a host of other heroes, attend Bruce Wayne's funeral twenty years later. One hundred years later, Clark and Diana are possibly seeing off one of their sons leaving for the stars.  Two hundred years later New York is flooded and destroyed. Five hundred years later Clark is farming as he helps rebuild the earth. One thousand years later, Clark is an old man and he is seen looking up at a new set of heroes, the Legion, and smiling happily at what his legacy has brought.
