Justice League of America (3rd Series)
No. 0: Who's
In? (September 2006) Synopsis: This issue
looks at the Trinity (Superman, Batman,
Wonder Woman) and their relationship with each other. It is composed of
vignettes looking at past, present, and possible future scenarios. One
scenario shows the death of Pa Kent.
Diana is seen holding Clark in her arms
as he breaks down. There is also a scene
where Diana announces to Superman and Batman on Themyscira that she is going to
get married. We do not know who the prospective groom is but both men,
especially Clark, do not appear to be entirely happy or convinced
this man is "the one". Clark, however, does say that they will support her. The
final pages show the present where the three put aside their recent differences
and focus on rebuilding the League.
No. 21: Sightings (July 2008) Synopsis: Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman meet up to go to a secret chamber in the new Hall Of Justice to discuss League business. It is revealed that Vixen has been absorbing abilities off other members and Superman had been aware of it. Diana seemed particularly interested to know why he kissed Vixen. Batman pointed out it was the other way around, and that Vixen kissed Clark to restore his power. Elsewhere other League members fight with an old foe of the Martian Manhunter.
No. 25: (September 2008) Synopsis: Inside her totem Vixen meets a new villain, in the form of the trickster god Anansi, who is the controller of stories. Anansi weaves a new tapestry where by the history of the Justice League changes. In this new alternate reality there is no Batman. Bruce Wayne grows up to become Paladin, and unlike Batman, is not opposed to killing in the name of justice. He never joins a Justice League. Superman and Wonder Woman marry and join the League but Superman is killed defending the world from Doomsday. In her grief, Diana retires from the League to mourn her husband. With no Superman and Wonder Woman, and no Batman, as Anansi anticipates, there is no hope and no one to lead. The League falls apart.
No. 26: (October 2008) Synopsis: Vixen who is locked inside an alternate reality in her totem, having escaped Anansi, attempts to bring the League back together. She meets Paladin and the Green Lantern of that reality. The three then travel to the Fortress of Solitude to meet Wonder Woman. Vixen explains to the group that they are living false lives and that they need to restore the League back to their rightful reality. Diana agrees, as she would do anything to have Superman alive again. Vixen tries to explain that in the real world she and Clark are not together. Diana stops Vixen before she completes her sentence. She simply says, "If Clark and I aren't supposed to be together, I do not wish to know. Without that hope I may not have the strength to do what must be done." With Wonder Woman's help, the alternate League assembles and fights Anansi. During the fight, Anansi turns this League against Vixen, but she manages to get her own League to take on this alternate version of themselves. In the end, it turns out Anansi had done this to test Vixen and make her strong again. He eventually releases her and the real League back to their rightful reality.
