AN: What was going through Clark's mind as he set up his date with Wonder Woman? Part of the dialogue between Clark, Diana and Myndi is from George Perez collection of Wonder Wonder Vol. 3: Beauty and the Beasts.
Making A Date
Clark Kent sat on his desk rereading the story he just finished. Per Perry White's approval, it should make the front page. Clark was exceptionally proud of this story. Clark Kent covered the Metropolis City Council corruption of illegal spending on taxpayers money without any help from his other persona Superman. Lois would be upset he got such a hot story that will make head rolls including the mayor's at City Hall but that would be her problem and not his.
As he read the article, his phone rang. Clark picked up the phone. "Hello, this is Clark Kent."
"Clark Kent? Hi, Myndi Mayer of Mayer Publicists, Inc. I'm calling for one of my best clients, Wonder Woman and *you're* the man I need to talk to."
The woman talked fast, crass, like a professional Hollywood agent. He was going to tell her he wasn't interested until she said Wonder Woman. "Wonder Woman? Does she want to do a story with the Daily Planet?"
*Please say yes. Please say yes. This can be my chance to finally see her again.*
"Nothing of the sort, darling," Myndi cooed.
*Damn.*
"Wonder Woman would like to meet Superman and since you have close ties to him I figure you're the one I need to talk to set this up."
*Hot damn!*
Though he was excited by this turn of events, Clark knew he had to feign some disappointment. "I see. I was hoping Wonder Woman would like to do an interview. The Daily Planet would be fair, honest and not expose her in any negative light."
"Yes, yes, well maybe another time," Myndi said quickly as if to dismiss the matter. "But think of it, Clark darling! This could be bigger than the wedding of Sean and Madonna! There's *millions* in tie-ins and publicity to be made from this and *you* can have ten percent."
"Ten percent is such a small cut," Clark said.
"Oh, why quibble, sweet thing?" Myndi flirted. "We'll both do marvelously if you can get that yummy friend of yours to agree to a rendezvous where we can film the lovers first meeting!"
Lovers? Clark immediately thought of the intense dream he had of Wonder Woman after they first met in Washington D. C. He and Wonder Woman were in his Fortress of Solitude tumbling hotly between the sheets, the sounds they were making, and the look of ecstasy on her face. He could still remember it all vividly, not to mention waking up to find himself with a raging--
Clark cleared his throat. This was no time to think about that. "How can you say they are lovers? If Wonder Woman is coming to you to set up a meeting with Superman, they can hardly be lovers."
"Okay, lovers, friends, whatever! The public will still devour it!" And to add some sympathy, Myndi added gently, "And Diana really does want to see Superman again."
"She does, does she?" Clark wondered if Wonder Woman thought of him as much he had for her. Was it possible she felt the same as he?
"C'mon, sweet thing--what d'ya say?" Myndi coaxed. "I promise your delightful Daily Planet will get the exclusive serialization rights!"
"I see." Time to set this up. "Well…hold on, Superman just flew in. I'm going to try to get him on phone. Would you get Wonder Woman please?"
"Uh-huh. Uh-huh," Myndi agreed. "Gotcha!"
In the background Clark could hear Myndi Mayer telling Diana to come to the phone and that Superman would be on the other line.
*Okay, Clark. Be cool. Be calm. She's coming to the phone. Put on that Superman voice and go for it!*
His heart was pounding as he heard the phone being picked up and then the dulcet tones of an angel.
"Hello?"
*Don't blow it, Clark!*
"Hi, is this Wonder Woman?" Clark spoke in his deeper, Superman voice.
"Yes," the angel spoke again. "This is she."
"Hi, Wonder Woman, it's Superman."
"Oh," she sound delighted. Score! "It *is* you! Your voice sounds so… so different over the phone."
"Yours sound like an angel." *Damn that was too much! Think of something quick, Kent* "Er, I'm glad I'm able to talk to you. I've been anxious to see you again."
"Yes, I've been anxious to see *you* again, too," Wonder Woman said.
*She has been anxious to see me. Yes!* "I've wanted to meet you again since Washington, but things have come up and I've been too busy to fly by Boston and according to the coverage in the papers and television, with your world tour and all, you've been busy, too. You're hard to get a hold on," Clark joked.
Wonder Woman gave a little laugh. "Well, I guess we have both been busy."
"Are you free this weekend?" Clark asked suddenly. He hoped he wasn't being too forward.
"This weekend?" Wonder Woman sounded surprised.
*Don't scare her off, Kent.*
"I was wondering if we could meet somewhere and talk face to face." Clark's heart was racing, palms were sweating and he couldn't breathe as he waited for an answer.
After what seem like hours, Wonder Woman answered, "Yes, that would be nice."
*YEAH!* Clark tossed his article in the air and the papers scattered all about his office. *She said yes! Now to close the deal.*
"How about meeting at the Balkans at 7pm? Do you know where that is?"
"No, but I'm sure I can find it."
"Great. I can't wait!" *Damn! Don't sound so excited, Clark!*
But it didn't bother Wonder Woman. "Yes, I am looking forward to it. I will see you there."
"Good. I have to go. I'll let you talk to Clark Kent. Goodbye and have a great day."
"Yes, you, too. Goodbye!"
*All right! She said yes! She said yes!* Clark was so excited he wanted to cheer out loud for the whole Daily Planet to hear but he resisted. He held the phone to his chest as he calmed down. He had to continue the charade. He put the phone to his ear again. "Hello, Wonder Woman. This is Clark Kent again. Superman just left and he seems excited about whatever you two talked about. May I speak to Ms. Mayer again?"
"Oh, yes." Clark could hear Wonder Woman telling Myndi he wanted to talk to her. Myndi asked if she was happy to which Wonder Woman said yes and then Myndi told Wonder Woman to run along.
He heard Myndi take back the phone. "Mr. Kent?"
"Yes, I'm here. Wonder Woman sounds excited."
"Yes, she *is* very excited and so am I! So, where are they going to meet? I've gotta arrange for copters and cameraman and---"
Clark immediately cut her off. No one was going to be at this meeting if he had anything to do with it. "Superman didn't tell me where he was meeting Wonder Woman."
"So what if he didn't tell you. Go ask him!" Myndi yelled. She sounded pissed but Clark didn't care.
"Why don't you ask Wonder Woman?" He knew he had nothing to worry about. Wonder Woman was gone now.
"No, I can't ask her!" She was irate now.
"Why not?" Clark asked innocently.
"That's none of your business! Look, Kent--you've simply *got* to ask him! We're talking millions here--the kind of money you can't just let slip away!" Clark put the phone down and walked out of his office. "Do you hear me Kent?" Myndi screamed when Clark didn't respond. "Kent. Kent??" She tapped her phone against her desk. "Hello? Hello?? Damn!" Myndi slammed the phone down.
Clark knew Myndi was probably cursing now, but he didn't care. He had a date with Wonder Woman this weekend! He was so excited he couldn't contain himself. He quickly changed clothes and flew out the Daily Planet in his Superman uniform. He jumped in the sky zooming across the city. A big smile was plastered on his face as he was the happiest man on the planet.
