Superman/Batman

No. 9 "The Supergirl From Krypton" - Visitor (June 2004) Synopsis: Superman and Batman discuss the arrival of the girl who calls herself Kara Zor-El. She claims to have been sent from Krypton before it exploded and is the cousin of Superman himself. Batman isn't convinced but Superman wants to believe she is his family. Clark brings her to Metropolis in order for her to adapt to the new world. During a stroll in the park, they are ambushed. To Superman's dismay and confusion the attacks are Wonder Woman, Artemis and Harbinger. Wonder Woman declares that she is taking Kara and none will stop her. Meanwhile on Apokolips, Darkseid orders Granny Goodness to bring him the girl who fell to earth.

No. 10 "The Supergirl From Krypton" - Warrior (July 2004) Synopsis: Kara is taken to Themyscira to undergo supervision and training. Batman and Wonder Woman agree that a girl with such raw power needs to learn how to control it, and staying with Clark in Metropolis would not serve that purpose. Superman is not happy with this plan or the doubts they still seem to have regarding Kara's identity. He and Diana get into a heated argument over this issue. Darkseid sends replicates of Doomsday via a boomtube to attack the island and heroes. The heroes manage to triumph but Harbinger is killed and Kara is abducted.

No. 11 "The Supergirl From Krypton" - Prisoner (August 2004) Synopsis: Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman team up with Big Barda to go to Apokolips to get Kara back. Wonder Woman and Barda face off with the Furies, Batman deals with demon dogs, and Superman has to face Kara herself, who has been corrupted by Darkseid.

No. 12: "The Supergirl From Krypton" - Traitor  (September 2004) Synopsis: Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman face off with Darkseid and the Furies. They manage to win Kara back and go home. Kara dons a costume with the cape and the S shield and Superman takes her to Smallville. Darkseid is hidden and waiting and he appears to turn Kara to ash with his Omega effect.

No. 13 "The Supergirl From Krypton" - Hero (October 2004) Synopsis: Superman is devastated and enraged and he and Darkseid fight. Wonder Woman intervenes, blocking Darkseid's Omega beams with her bracelets, before they can hit Superman. Superman shouts at her to stay out of the fight. He lifts Darkseid and flies him into deep space and imprisons him in the Source Wall. When he returns to Smallville the League are helping restore the damaged farm. He then flies to Themyscira and we see Kara alive and well. Superman and the League, it appears, had anticipated Darkseid and had planned it all along for him to believe he had killed Kara. Superman tells Kara that he will support whatever she wants to be or do with her life. Heroes gather on Themyscira and Superman introduces Supergirl to them.

No. 14-18 "Absolute Power" (April 2005) Synopsis:  This graphic novel combines issues # 14-18. It looks at an alternate history stemming from changes in our heroes origins. Baby Kal-El is no longer raised by the Kents and young Bruce Wayne does not have to grow up avenging his parents' death. They have been taken and raised by Lightning Lord, Cosmic King and Saturn Queen, travelers from the 31st century. Superman and Batman now rule the world with an iron fist. They broker no opposition and hunt down anyone who seeks to change the world order. They kill men and women, even those who would have been former friends and allies. Among the casualties are Green Arrow and Wonder Woman. Superman seeks out Wonder Woman in revenge for killing Batman and he brutally beats and strangles her with her lasso. The space time continuum changes and shifts and we see Superman and Batman take on new incarnations but they slowly come to a realization that something is wrong; that the life they are living is wrong. Eventually, with the intervention by the Adult Legion, the timeline corrects itself and all goes back to normal, as they way it should be.

Superman contacts Wonder Woman to come to the JLA Watchtower. He feels the need to tell her how much he treasures her friendship and Diana is slightly confused where it is all coming from but assures him that she knows this. She kisses him on the cheek and leaves. Superman and Batman find it difficult to erase the memories. Superman is especially haunted by the way he brutally killed Diana.
