Different Worlds Part Two

AN: Parts of Clark and Diana's dialogue are from George Perez Wonder
Woman Vol. 3: Beauty and Beasts.

Different Worlds by Arcadia

Part Two:

The Date

Part Two:

"I'm such an idiot." Superman thought as he looked at his
surroundings. "I tell Wonder Woman to meet me at the Balkans but I
don't tell her where? Hopefully, she will see me," he said to
himself as he walked around. Besides standing out in his Superman
uniform, the leaves on the tress were gone. Remnants of last week
snow hung on a few branches, but other than that, the area was quite
spacious and isolated and Wonder Woman should have a clear view of
him from the sky.

"It's not freezing but it is cool. What if she can't handle the
cold? She wears a one piece swimsuit." Superman shook his head at
his errors. "Great going, Kent. Why didn't I suggest the tropics?"

Clark examined his uniform. He wore a new suit made by his Mom just
for this special occasion. It fit him perfectly, not a wrinkle in
sight but he still felt he didn't look presentable. He was meeting a
princess after all and not just any princess. The most beautiful one
there was. Clark smelled his breath. It didn't stink. He smelled
under his arms. They passed the test, too.

"Maybe I should've brought flowers. No. I don't think Wonder Woman
would go for that or would she?" Clark slapped his forehead. "I'm no
good at this."

Clark's hearing picked up the sound of flying. It wasn't a bird. It
was faster than that. It wasn't a plane. It didn't have any engines.
No, this was a person coming to him. He looked up and spotted Wonder
Woman flying in the skies.

Clark was entranced by the vision of Wonder Woman flying. "She's
like a beautiful angel. She flies as graceful as a bird. I hope I
don't make a fool of myself in front of her."

Wonder Woman gracefully landed before Superman. Just as he saw her
in Washington, D.C. she was stunningly beautiful. A tone lithe body,
breasts the size of--*Focus on the face, Clark. Focus on the face.*
He never saw a face so beautiful, eyes as blue as the sea, red
kissable lips in a warm engaging smile. Superman was overwhelmed by
her beauty. He couldn't help himself. He wanted to kiss this
beautiful goddess. He rushed to her. He could hear Wonder Woman
managing a hello before he pulled her into his arms and planted a
passionate kiss against her lips with such force Wonder Woman
gasped.

Clark used Wonder Woman's opened mouth to his advantage and slipped
his tongue inside. She tasted wonderful, exotic; her scent was
intoxicating like a hypnotic drug. He could stay like this forever
kissing her until he realized he was the only one involved in the
kiss. Wonder Woman wasn't responding.

Clark opened his eyes and saw Wonder Woman's eyes were as wide as a
deer in headlights. *Oh…..damn.* Clark broke the kiss; his hands
rested on Wonder Woman's upper arms while hers were pressed again
his chest as if trying to push him away. "Er….." *So, this is what
it means to be an ass.* Clark released Wonder Woman and took a step
back. Wonder Woman gave him a What-the-heck-was-that look. "S-
sorry…." Clark apologized. "I guess that was out of line."

"Somewhat," Wonder Woman nervously answered. She took a step back as
well. "I… did not expect quite such a….*passionate* reception,
Superman."

*I completely blew it.* "I guess not," Superman guiltily
said. "Sorry again, Wonder Woman. I freely admit I'm not at all good
at this sort of thing." *Man of Steel. Dumb as rocks.*

Wonder Woman was puzzled at Superman's choice of words. "This sort
of thing?"

*At least I'm not the only one lost but she has an excuse. She grew
up on an island of women. I'm just dumb as rocks.* "Er….well…I
suppose that proves my point, doesn't it? You've been on my mind an
awful lot since we met in Washington." Wonder Woman didn't seem to
understand, leaving Clark to feel like an even bigger fool. "I'm…
afraid I just deluded myself into thinking you were…well…" *Should I
even tell her? Well, I've gone this far.* "That I was on your mind a
lot, too. Sorry."

Something changed in Wonder Woman's expression. Sympathy perhaps?
Understanding? Clark wasn't sure. "That is the third time you have
said sorry, Superman. Once was more than sufficient. I am….not
without feelings."

Clark felt a little hope rise in him as Wonder Woman went on to say
she has admitted to thinking about him these past months and a
friend of hers has noticed her silence when he was the
topic. "Then….then there's a chance the feelings I have whirling
about inside my brain…." *not to mention the lower half of my
body* "…might be reciprocated?"

His hopes were dashed when Wonder Woman said, "I…do not know,
Superman." Well, it was understandable as she admitted she was still
new to the world and not yet deciphered the feelings in her all the
while understanding the emotions passed between the sexes. She even
admitted to having control of pushing thoughts of him aside.

It was enough to compel Superman to admit, "You must have a stronger
mental self-control than I do, Wonder Woman. I've thought of you
often. I even had one… *I think it will be smart if I don't tell
Wonder Woman I had a wet dream about her.* "a rather *intense*
dream about you, shortly after Washington."

Apparently Wonder Woman didn't know what kind of intense dream he
had otherwise, she either would've socked him or flew away in
disgust. But he did notice Wonder Woman take another step away. It
was subtle but he caught it. "That was when I started to wonder if
it might not be my heart trying to come to terms with something my
brain had yet to see."

"You speak in most compelling terms, Superman," Wonder Woman told
him. "I have warrior's heart but I am not unmoved by your words."

*If she's not unmoved by my words, then why is she moving away from
me? Every since we started talking, she's move almost four feet from
me and she keeps say `un' this or `not' that.*

Superman pointed out Wonder Woman's distancing herself from him and
her choice of words. Wonder Woman responded with a smile and the
stiffness in her posture diminished. He caught on, eh? "Yes, but
this is my prerogative, is it not? To use the language of this land
this is our first date. We seek understanding not consummation. Am I
right?"

*In other words, Wonder Woman is saying she wants more talking and
no touching the goodies. I can do that.* Superman broke into a
healthy smile. "Yes. Absolutely." He held his hand out to Wonder
Woman. "All right, Wonder Woman, will you come with me now so I can
introduce myself more properly?"

Wonder Woman linked her hand with his. "Superman, I would be
honored. But please my name is Diana."

*Whoo-hoo! She's giving me another chance! Okay, Kent. Don't blow it
this time!* Superman took to the skies holding Diana's hand. As they
soared higher in the skies, Diana released his hand but flew close
beside him. Clark briefly thought of Lois and how nice it was to
have a woman fly alongside him instead of him holding her. He
confessed to Diana how he felt most at home when he flew and how all
the problems of the world fit into proper perspective.

Their conversation took an odd turn as Diana thought flying in the
skies were fitting of people such as they with their special
abilities. Clark took it as Diana saying they were above humans
which left Clark to explain to Diana how important humanity was to
him and how he considers it something he has to earn, giving he was
an alien to the planet. Diana compared him to be like the Gods where
he humbly denied the comparison.

"No, I can do things no mortal can, princess, but for all that…well,
at heart I'm just a boy from a small town in Kansas."

Diana looked at him perplexed. "Kansas?"

"The ship I came to Earth in as a baby landed in Kansas. I was
raised by humans. I…" His hearing picked up the sound of
helicopters. From the sounds of it, there were three. He looked
ahead and saw the helicopters flying towards them. They were a mile
away. "Diana, did you notice any helicopters coming your way?"

"Yes, but I flew above them so they wouldn't see me. Why?"

"I think we're being followed." Just as he said those words,
helicopters came into view.

"Are they for us?" Diana questioned.

"I'm sure of it." Superman took Diana's hand and flew them away from
the choppers. "How could they have known? I wanted this to be a
private affair."

"So did I," Diana said. "I told my friend Vanessa and she mentioned
something about telling her friend Barry but they are children. They
wouldn't have access to a helicopter."

"Maybe not but Barry might've told someone who does have access,"
Superman said.

"I see what you mean. We must find another private place to talk
then," Diana decided. "Where do you suggest we go?"

"There's an isolated island I know about. We could go to my
fortress. We--" He stopped and looked down at the ground below.

Diana noticed Superman looking troubled. "Superman, what is it?"

"An earthquake. It's happening below."

Diana looked down as well and with her sharp eyes noticed the ground
moving and homes, shaking and crumbling. "We should help," Diana
said.

"Yes," Superman agreed. Their problems with the paparazzi took a
back seat. "Let's go."

Ignoring the helicopters, Superman and Wonder Woman flew to the
disaster below. They flew to the heart of the earthquake: a village
based at the bottom of a volcanic mountain. The poor structured
homes weren't built to withstand such a powerful quake and easily
crumbled to the ground.

"Ground zero is in the mountain. I'm going to stop it before it
activates the volcano."

Diana looked at Superman stunned. "You can stop an earthquake?"

Superman smiled. *She's impressed. Go, Clark!* "Uh, yeah," he said
easily. "It's nothing I can't handle. Help the villagers." And with
that Superman flew to the mountain. Diana kept watching him until he
disappeared in the mountain.

Wonder Woman was going to help the villagers but she noticed the
heavy snow on the mountain was falling like an avalanche towards the
village. Diana quickly looked around and spotted what she needed.
She flew towards a large group of trees. She pulled the biggest tree
out of the ground and flew towards the mountain. She planted the
tree at the base of the mountain and pushed with her strength. As
she moved around the mountain, she created a deep crevasse where the
heavy snow fell in, saving the village.

Diana flew back to the village to help the people. As she does this,
she noticed the quakes suddenly stopped. Diana looked at the
mountain. "He did it." The sounds of choppers above took Diana's
attention away from Superman's success. The people following her and
Superman were filming and taking pictures. Several cameras flashed
on her, causing Diana to grow irritated the helicopters were taking
pictures of her and not helping the people.

A villager ran to her. "Please, Wonder Woman. You must help. My
cousin and his bride were getting married." He pointed at the church
nearby. "My family's trapped inside."

"I'll get them," Diana promised. Diana flew to the church, lift a
large pile of rubble and placed it aside.

Superman landed beside her, aiding Diana. While some villagers were
helping their neighbors out of their homes, the others were
gathering what debris they could off the church and tossing it
aside. When most of the debris was cleared, Superman and Wonder
Woman saw many villagers inside. Some were stuck under the fallen
debris, benches and beams. A few laid very still. Villagers began
moving through the church helping the injured. Diana spotted the
bride first. Her white gown was covered in blood as a beam was
pressed against her and her husband. Diana tossed the beam aside as
if it was paper. Diana picked up the bride carefully while Superman
examined the groom's injuries. Though he was pinned under a beam
like his bride, the groom only suffered a broken arm. Superman
scanned the bride.

"What are you doing?" Diana asked.

"Checking her vitals. She's alive but she has a punctured lung, a
broken left arm and broken right leg."

Diana turned to groom. "Where is the nearest hospital?"

"Twenty miles from here."

"Come with me," Diana told the groom. He followed Diana to the
helicopters that were swarming around them, taking pictures. Diana
went to the nearest helicopter. "Please. Take this woman to a
hospital. She needs a doctor. Her husband will guide you. He needs
medical care as well."

A photographer asked, "Wonder Woman, are you and Superman dating?"

"Are you upset the earthquake interrupted your date?" another asked.

Diana was almost speechless. "There's destruction everywhere, this
woman is in dire need of help and you ask me such frivolous
questions?" She looked to the other paparazzi in the
helicopters. "Does the same go for the rest of you? Do you not care
these people are suffering? Do you not care to help your fellow man?"

"I'll take her," a voice said behind Diana. She turned and saw
Superman. He took the woman in his arms and looked to the
groom. "Twenty miles?"

"Yes. Twenty miles east."

"Thank you." Superman knelt before Diana and the groom. "Put your
good arm around my neck. I'll carry you, too." The groom did as
Superman said and he gently took the skies carefully carrying his
precious cargos.

Wonder Woman went back to helping the people. While some of the
paparazzi began helping, getting bodies out of the rubble, taking
the injured to the hospital via the helicopters, some were taking
pictures of Wonder Woman and later Superman when he returned to
help. Diana soon forgot the paparazzi were there and focused on
Superman and how he continued to impress her. Superman used his eyes
to look through debris and find people trapped and flew seriously
injured civilians to the hospital. Superman was equally impressed
with Diana's ability to communicate with animals and find trapped
civilians not to mention her strength and medical skills.

As soon as everyone was rescued and the seriously injured taken to
the hospital, Diana joined Superman who was talking to civilians,
trying ease their fears over the quake. When Diana came to stand by
him, he finished his conversation with the villagers and walked off
with Diana.

"It has been an interesting evening, Diana," Clark commented.

"Yes, it is quite memorable and it didn't go as I planned but I am
glad the people are all right and the causalities were minimum." She
looked at Superman. "There would've been more if not for you."

"There would've been more if not for *you*, Diana," Superman said.

The two stared into each other's eyes and would've remained there if
they weren't suddenly attacked by flashes of light. Diana shield her
face from the bright lights of cameras while many of the paparazzi
began shouting questions.

"Are you gonna finish your date?"

"Hey, Supes have you kissed her yet!"

"Does this mean you and Lois Lane aren't a couple?"

"Wonder Woman will he be your first man?" Superman turned red with
that one. He raised his cape, protecting him and Diana from the
camera flashes. Many of the cameramen groaned and demanded Superman
put his cape down so they could take more pictures.

"Thank you, Superman," Diana said but she was visibly troubled by
the paparazzi. "I wanted to talk to you in private but it seems it
will not happen."

"We can still talk privately," Superman said. "Unless you have to
go."

"No. I don't have to go. Perhaps we should go to your fortress this
time," Diana suggested. "We should be alone there."

Clark couldn't believe Diana's words. "You want to see my fortress?"

Diana nodded. "Yes."

Clark smiled. *She wants to see my place. All right!* "It's in the
artic. Will the cold bother you?"

Diana shook her head. "No, I should be fine."

*There goes my chance to wrap her in my cape.* Superman took Diana's
hand again. "Well, let's go."

As they flew in the sky, the cameras zoom in on them, filming and
taking as many pictures as possible. Some of the men jumped in the
helicopters and tried to follow them. Seeing what the paparazzi were
trying to do, Superman and Wonder Woman increased their speed
creating sonic booms as they disappeared from view. There was no way
the paparazzi could track them now and Superman and Wonder Woman
will finally be alone.
