Why the SMWW Fans Love Them Together

“…the kiss between Superman and Wonder Woman is one of the best in the comic universe…”

Supeswond on Action # 600

it was Diana who was privy to his inner most thoughts, had seen both sides of the man – the Superman he was and the more human man he claimed to be. It was Diana who had protected him in battle and comforted him after…

Christmas Past, Present and Future by Amazon V

“Superman. I’m not sure what to make of him. There’s something about him that evokes honesty. Of all the League members, he intrigues me the most. My mother spoke of men as if there was nothing redeeming about them. Men were deceptive she said, used their power to control others; were savage barbarians. Superman’s not like that at all. He uses his powers to help others. He doesn’t abuse it like the Gods have done. Superman doesn’t flirt with me like Flash. He doesn’t give me stares as I’ve seen on men. He treats me with respect and a friend.  He challenges the preconceptions I have of men.”

JL: The Newest Recruit by Arcadia

She represented the feminine ideal, and yet was a warrior without equal who had embraced the role of a teacher; he was the masculine ideal, yet a pacifist foremost who still fought for what mattered. When they melded together, they would flow into one continuous cosmic stream, like a yin to a yang, neither knowing which was which. The creative force coupled with the power of nature.

Now here Diana was, looking on seeing the one man in this world that she could trust to watch her back, and depend on when things get too deep even for her. Kal was her shield, as Diana was his sword, and together they completed each other in a symbiotic cycle that could not be broken so easily.

It is simply to say that they couldn't be so easily pegged. Whatever they had went beyond friendship, not encroaching on that dangerous 'R' word. They loved each other, in the way that two people deeply compatible in a non-romantic platonic way most certainly did. They were – friends. Best friends.

Friends by Mark Question

Perhaps it could be spoken of in either way that love had always been there, deep inside, in places that even we ourselves had not known. Together we could overcome this endless shift of seasons.

Beyond the Yellow Sunset by Mami02

“I think what I most like about the Kal / Diana pairing is their friendship… it's unique in a way that I can't explain… same goes for their conversations.”

Kambiz

“I thought the marriage of Superman and Lois was sooo limiting… Diana would have been a better choice. Heir to the throne, she is more dignified,  Steve Trevor was dealt respectfully in the silver age even though he, at times, seemed like a spoiled brat.  Equipped with almost the same powers, it would not be a stretch to see her mop up the joint with bad guys,   Their interactions would be fascinating.  It would be like that Jolie-Pitt Movie "Mr. & Mrs, Smith".  I would also hope that they would have a loving teasing/ adoring competitive angle.   I'd love to be a fly on the wall when she rides him saying she could have rescued a run away train in less time.  I'd like to have seen Wonder Woman pull Superman by his ear up to a  skyscraper once she heard that he had okayed a one-on-one interview with Lois.   I'd also like to see the Princess in the kitchen  trying to fry and egg when her royal upbringing never included such disciplines.  And, boy, I would have loved to seen what Diana would do with that frying pan when  Clark began to snicker. It's hard to explain what I'm saying unless one also has seen the Tracy-Hepburn films of the 1940s….  I have no intellectual reason for these two to be together... just the dreams of endless possibilities.”

Henry Cuevas

This goodhearted pair connects on every level, recognizing the responsibilities they share as well their similar goals and ideals. Of course they're not entirely similar; Diana's warrior heart and Clark's Boy Scout nature make for an interesting combination indeed.

“I've always thought that Superman and Wonder Womandeserved to be together because they're two of the oldest and greatest symbolsin American comics, plus they're both meta and have the highest ideals. I've never really liked Lois anyways and she's definitely too suspicious and manipulative for someone as sincere as Superman. And besides, Superman andWonder Woman would have amazing offspring (like Jonathan who seems to be above time and immortals, even if it's AU).”

“…the moment I saw them walking side by side at the opening, something clicked in place here. I began looking out for all sm/ww scenes there, and never looked back again. It is the most perfect combination I have ever seen. Matching colours, super strength, and ideals too.”

Mami02 on the JL/JLU animation series.

She grinned as she sipped her float—how utterly human this alien is, how simple it is for him to transfer from one of his roles to another, and to remain so simply human in all. She pondered at his abilities and personality. He was truly a simple farm boy from Kansas living in a city and a world so much larger than him, and yet…remains ever vigilante, ever ready to help…how she loved him for all those things that made him the man that now sits across from her, how she loved him.

Over Ice Cream Floats by WonderCat

“You want the whole deal, here it is.  Yes, the Big Blue Boyscout loves her.  Stares at her like a puppy dog when she's not watching.  Wonders from time to time whether he married the right woman.  Covers her royal ass in every tussle without even thinking about it.  Probably has some really interesting dreams he tries hard not to remember.  But, he's married, and the boy scout is a loyal doggie so he resigns himself to sickeningly soulful eye contact with her when they think nobody is noticing.”

Another Point of View by Ronnie K

Diana reaches forward and takes his hand. "I'm here if you need me, Kal. After all I'm always around."

A smile adorns his face at that comment. She is always around for him.

New Years Resolution by Ben10987654321

The message it sends is so much greater than any words of love he could ever speak.

Not that they talk about love very often. They're both too old, been through too much together to waste words on giddy declarations that only sound hollow in the hindsight of greater, silent displays.

Dust to Dust by Ingrid Matthews

He had known her for years, possibly making her his most trusted comrade. Some would beg to differ considering the improbability of such trust ever existing as it is. Only spouses were deserving of such degree.

I Find You by Diezel

Kal is the strongest being on earth, yet he has the gentlest heart. His capacity to forgive and to empathize with even his worst nemesis is truly remarkable. Then there is his boyish charm that I swear always wins me over in an argument. He knows exactly how to smile at me or tease me so that I forget why I was angry in the first place. Of course, he's beautiful too.

Women in Love by Emily Feist

“…there is a LOT of unresolved sexual tension between the two characters…”

Ultra Sonic

“Ultimately I just love them.”
